Lecture 1 Summary....started off with an introduction to the course and all the requirements that come with assessment etc etc. Adam (Lecturer) reviewed the course outline and all the topics we will be covering. It all sounds so interesting and hopefully it will be...The first lecture topic was on the terms "Techonolgy and Communication". Adam outlined the meaning of technolgy being, in short, "a scientific study of mechanical arts and their application to the world". He also went through the types of techonology that has been established, Analog and Digital and their uses in society. Types of digital technology in today's society include; I-pod, Camera phones, digital cameras etc. With Technology developing Communication developed with it. Communication meaning "any process that transfers, transmits or makes information known to other people" according to Adam. The word communication and its meaning is fairly well understood by most people. So with this need for Technology and Communication in society, it only seems natural that the two converge to make 'Communication Technology'. By converging the two, telephones, radio, tv, fax, mobiles, computer etc are a result.
Adam also covered Web-Blogs and the concept of the online diary, which is posted on the internet for all to read. We viewed an intersting little piece on You-Tube about Web-Blogging etc to get to know a little bit more about the concept and how people can use it for media and journalism purposes.
Overall it was an interesting lecture for the first day....
